THE LOCAL GREEN ENERGY PUT TO THE SERVICE
OF A SUSTAINABLE METROPOLE

Located 7km away from the Géolide, the Cayolle plant processes annually 12,000 tonnes of sludge coming from the waste water treatment plant. To optimise the valorisation of the waste water sudge, SERAMM, SUEZ and the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropole are committed to exploit materials until now considered as waste in order to transform them into potential resources for the Metropole. In 2019, the Cayolle plant was transformed to allow the waste water treatment sludge to be valorised into biomethane.

Green gas from waste water,
a sustainable resource to:

  • Support the territories in their energy transition.
  • Improve the life quality of the Marseille inhabitants thanks to green solutions.
  • Develop circular economy solutions.
  • Promote and implement each circular economy solution as a challenge for today and for tomorrow.

A WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT
FULL OF RESOURCES

Production capacity in millions of kWh
The investment totalled more than 9 million euros. Owing to this resource, since January 2019, 3,600 households of the 9th district of Marseille are supplied with green energy. The unit has been designed for a production capacity of 15 million kWh, making it possible to cut the green house gas emission by 25%. In a near future, this biomethane could be used as compressed gas to fuel a fleet of urban buses.
